God gave the "Holy Land" to the Jews and, through a long process, the U.N. gave it back after the Ottoman Empire was defeated in World War One. They declared Israel a nation in 1948, only three years after some of the Muslim allies of the Nazi regime had fought for the Nazis in World War Two--most importantly the famous Mufti of Jerusalem — who shared the Nazis' Jew-hatred.
Being on the losing side has consequences.
God gave the "Holy Land" to the Jews between 1000-586 BC, but were exiled by the Babylonian Empire. Cyrus II, founder of the Achaemenian dynasty of Persia and conqueror of Babylonia, in 538 BC issued an order allowing exiled Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple. Under the reign of the Hasmoneans the Jewish state was largely composed of Jews. But in 63 B.C. when General Pompey came to Jerusalem he began to reverse this process. He allowed the Jews to rule the south and Galilee, but non-Jews ruled the rest of the kingdom (that belonged to them).
The Romans deposed the ruling Hasmonean dynasty of Judaea (in power from c. 140 BCE) and the Roman Senate declared Herod the Great "King of the Jews" in 40 BC. In 138 AD with Emperor Hadrian's death, the persecution of Jews within the Roman Empire is eased and Jews are allowed to visit Jerusalem on Tisha B'av.
In the following centuries the Jewish center moves to Galilee. Between 361–363 AD, the last pagan Roman Emperor, Julian, allows the Jews to return to "Holy Jerusalem which you have for many years longed to see rebuilt" and to rebuild the Second Temple. Shortly after, the Emperor is assassinated, and the plan is dissolved.
In 438 AD the Empress Eudocia removes the ban on Jews' praying at the Temple site and the heads of the Community in Galilee issue a call "to the great and mighty people of the Jews": "Know that the end of the exile of our people has come!" In the 7th century, the rise and domination of Islam among largely pagan Arabs in the Arabian Peninsula results in the almost complete removal and FORCED conversion of the ancient Jewish communities there, and sack of Levant from the hands of Byzantines. Most Jews lived in the Muslim Arab realm (Andalusia, North Africa, Palestine, Iraq and Yemen). Despite sporadic periods of persecution, Jewish communal and cultural life flowered in this period. The universally recognized centers of Jewish life were in Jerusalem and Tiberias (Syria), Sura and Pumbeditha (Iraq).
Through the ages, the Jewish people have been persecuted outside and in a land that was given to them by God and taken away by empires. Now, comes the Ottoman Empire that sided with Germany. The Brits took control of the territory, which they called the British Mandate for Palestine (the territory, not nation). Not because there are Palestinians but because it was a historical neutral name for the region that I've explain elsewhere. It was occupied by the conquering nation and vetted through the UN to give back to its rightful, historical owner, the Jews of Israel.
Yes, there are Palestinians now, but most fled or were expelled after they started more war with Israel. Israel, if you read history, has tried time and time again to give land for peace and reach a two-state solution. The fanatical Arabs will NOT out of religious zeal and historical ignorance.
I have sympathy for all people who are mistreated, but Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis do not. Unfortunately, they are responsible for the blood of the innocents, much like Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. All nations have historical injustices. Hamas does not care about justice or peace, but only completely driving Israel into the sea and killing Jews according their interpretation of the Quran. I am not a victim of propaganda anymore than you are. I believe the historical facts and justice the UN applied are right and fair.
