PSYCHONIX: Mind Over Matter

Updated: Jul 9, 2022

PROLOGUE

"Psychokinesis or mind over matter is the motion of the mind, soul, spirit, or breath. I believe we can move objects by supernatural forces, including spirits and ghosts."

~Henry Holt, 1914,On The Cosmic Relations

THOSE INVOLVED IN the Mind-Body Problem projects, at Innovations Technology Laboratory, discovered that there was a science to the supernatural. The axiomatic lines separating the fields of study were seemingly erased, once they fortuitously detected a mental substance called PSYCHON radiation and began to develop psychological bionics. For the first time this seemed to amplify and enable mind-to-mind communication through what was designated as the Holt frequency spectrum. For now, no one could openly discuss the benefits and dangers of this transhuman development.

There have always been programs and weapons that were so classified that public hearings and budgets were deemed inappropriate by the Director of National Intelligence. Those Black Budgets were projects that included operating funds for intelligence, CIA, global listening posts of the National Security Agency, the super-secret satellites of the National Reconnaissance Office, and NASA. All these—and only God and the President of the United States knew what else. Sitting on the President’s desk now was a top secret folder with the file name: PSYCHONIX.

The file revealed that there was a sophisticated piece of emerging technology, which could enhance human intellect, physiology, and evidently probe our thoughts and unlock consciousness. If there was indeed a neoteric device that could overcome human limitations, transcend physical reality, and harness mind over matter, then they wanted it before the Chinese, or some other economic superpower got their hands on it. It was a matter of the highest national security.

The hard problems of how the mind and body communicated and where consciousness originated had been debated by science and religion for millennia, but not any longer. The ITL staff was now fully testing PSYCHONIX, which was apparently driven by the newly developed MDSL-1 processor—potentially a modem for the soul. At first the central processing unit would be adapted into virtual reality goggles and used to penetrate the eyes and ears with projected beams of energy, which enhanced the natural PSYCHON radiation recently discovered in our body. That allowed it to be absorbed by the cochlea and retina, and then converted to electrical impulses. It would then be transferred along the auditory and optic nerve, directly to the brain. That was merely in the Alpha phase of the project. It was, however, seriously being considered for a neural implant—and potentially a high-powered, wireless, bionic eye that communicated between the central nervous system and the ITL Control Center.

Theoretically, PSYCHONIX could tap into the areas of the brain that controlled thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger, and every process that regulated mind and body. ITL largely understood how the brain worked—but had serious philosophical disagreements about how it was controlled.

One man, Colonel Steven Scott, may become the first person to explore all that the human mind sees, believes, feels, thinks, and loves in this world and the next. He and his stepbrother Dr. Mark Starr were persuaded by the words often attributed to C.S. Lewis: You do not have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.

If Steven can overcome his dysfunctional childhood, PTSD, espionage, and a near death experience in a cryogenic Dewar, called the Amaranth, it’s then that he may find healing, happiness, and ultimate hope—provided it doesn’t kill him first.
