Logically, chains of cause and effect either go back eternally in an infinite regression, which is actually impossible, or at some point we have to come to what we consider ultimate reality.
A mind.
The perfect mind.
The eternal intelligent being that conceived it.
The issue is not whether it makes sense to question ultimate fact, it is rather the question: what fact is ultimate? The universe or God.
Answer the question yourself: can an actual infinite number of things (matter) exist? Can you pass through an infinite number of of elements one at a time counting to (or from) infinity?
No, you can't.
Only an immutable, omniscient, omnipotent, morally perfect eternal mind (spirit) could be God.
