Drawn To A Flaw

I find myself drawn to President Donald Trump, flawed yet the most formidable candidate in the race. His embodiment of conservative values strikes a chord with me, and so it seems the average American in these financially difficult and turbulent times, making him the natural choice to navigate our nation through its current trials. If his four years in office are an indicator of future behavior, we can count on him to serve well.

While his accusations and the terrible events of January 6th loom large, it’s imperative to uphold the principles of due process and innocence until proven guilty. Donald Trump, not being convicted underscores the importance of separating feeling and accusations from reality and a conviction, a cornerstone of our legal system. Admittedly, Trump is not the paragon of virtue I wish for in a candidate. Yet, he is a conservative fighter who can’t be bought. He has had to fight since the day he came down the elevator, and he did when most people couldn't have taken the heat.

In this imperfect election, his alignment with my core values makes him the superior choice. A morally imperfect man, like me. America itself is a struggle of imperfection, where our God provides us unalienable rights and makes way for moral progression, also inscribed in our Constitution.

A comparison of Trump to Biden reveals a stark contrast in promises versus action. Trump gets stuff done. Also, while Biden promised an “iron-clad support of Israel” he has turned away from them during a critical stage of war. His actions always fall short in times of crisis. Defense Secretary Bill Gates said, “he’s been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.” His stance on critical issues like abortion and border security leaves much to be desired, highlighting a disconnect between rhetoric and reality. A Catholic and an American who won’t protect lives in the womb or those being attacked across our nations, from the border to the inner-cities.

In Trump, I see a flawed but resolute leader whose compass points toward values I hold dear. For all his rough edges, he remains the best option to champion our American ideals and navigate the stormy seas. *pun intended

Biden is a royal mess. One need to only recall his exit strategy, if that’s what you would like to call it, from Afghanistan. The worst border crisis in US history. The DEI bureaucratic cultural revolution: the Biden administration has made it clear that its bureaucratic priority—no matter what Cabinet department—is always advancing “equity.” The economy: the constant message from the Biden administration has been that the U.S. economy is the best ever and that it’s been creating jobs like never before. Never mind the fact that widespread COVID-19 lockdowns that the administration promoted were the reason so many jobs were lost to begin with. But the administration hasn’t been able to hide from inflation and attendant cost-of-living increases, which are eating away at the savings and finances of countless Americans. Biden’s message has been to blame private companies for the price surge and to focus on “shrinkflation,” in which products are reduced in size and quantity to mask price increases.

On-the-other-hand, Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Four American presidents promised to do it, but only one actually did. This is why the American people elected Trump. He does what he promises to do, for better or for worse — in this case, definitely for the better. Even Jeb Bush tweeted his approval.

He took a surprisingly tough line with Russia. Trump approved a $47 million arms package for Ukraine, sent troops to Poland's border with Russia and imposed new sanctions on Moscow for violating the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

He withdrew from the Paris climate agreement. After George W. Bush pulled out of the disastrous Kyoto treaty, U.S. emissions went down faster than much of Europe. The same would be true for Trump's departure from the Paris accord, if he was given a second term. Combined with his approval of the Keystone XL pipeline and opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to exploration, Trump was helping usher in a new age of American energy development.

He got NATO allies to kick in $12 billion more toward our collective security. Decades of pleading by the Bush and Obama administrations failed to get NATO allies to meet their financial commitments to the alliance, but Trump's tough talk and reticence to affirm America's Article V commitment did the trick. NATO is stronger as a result.

He has virtually eliminated the Islamic State's physical caliphate. Trump removed the constraints Obama placed on our military and let it drive the terrorists from their strongholds.

He admitted he was wrong on Afghanistan and reversed Obama's disastrous withdrawal. In a rare admission, Trump declared: "My original instinct was to pull out ... But all my life, I've heard that decisions are much different when you sit behind the desk in the Oval Office. ... A hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum for terrorists."

He enacted historic tax and regulatory reform that has unleashed economic growth. Trump signed the first comprehensive tax reform in three decades and removed the wet blanket of Obama-era regulations smothering our economy. We are now heading into our third consecutive quarter of above 3 percent growth.

He is installed conservative judges who will preside for decades. With his appointment of Neil M. Gorsuch, Trump secured a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, and he is moving at record pace to fill the federal appeals courts with young conservative judges.

He enforced President Barack Obama's red line against Syria's use of chemical weapons. When the regime of Bashar Assad used a toxic nerve agent on innocent men, women and children, Trump didn't wring his hands. He acted quickly and decisively, restoring America's credibility on the world stage that Obama had squandered.

He, is not Joe Biden. #Trump2024
