Don't Be a Jerk

I’m a Christian, but I'm never offended by people who disagree with me. Yes, I have specific values that I can defend, but I'm also a listener and a learner with an above genius flair for humor. Just ask me. (I can see my wife shaking her head). Don't get me wrong, I can get mad. However, I do my best to establish appropriate boundaries with those who ignorantly rage, harass, disrespect, manipulate, pressure, and try to shut down appropriate discussions. Those boundaries include limited communication, unfollowing and deleting social media comments, and separation. You push away from folks who always provoke you or intentionally push your buttons. Open discussions and opinions should always be two-way streets, welcomed by both parties, not a place for you to unload and torch those with whom you disagree--anytime you want. I'm not trying to be pious. I'm not perfect, nor has my behavior always been on target. These are some general bad behaviors I’ve seen among my fellow believers and non-believers. Love, reason, and the God who created both matter to me. I am friends with those who are different than me and who have different reasons than me. That’s a good thing. Keep talking. Forcing your opinion on someone never changes hearts and minds. As a Chrisitian I believe that's God's job.
