The Latin phrase "sapere aude" translates to "dare to know" or "dare to be wise." It was famously used by the philosopher Immanuel Kant in his 1784 essay, "What is Enlightenment?" In this context, sapere aude encouraged individuals to think independently, overcome ignorance, and pursue knowledge courageously, rejecting intellectual passivity or reliance on authority for truth.

The phrase has also been used in various intellectual and cultural contexts as a motto that promotes courage in seeking understanding and wisdom, even when challenging prevailing norms.
